On Monday, April 20th, Beirut’s National Museum shone bright green, white, and red with the colors of Italy’s flag, sending a message of solidarity and support from Lebanon to the people of Italy.

Italy has long suffered the impact of the coronavirus, the deadliest disaster it has faced since WWII. It surpassed China in the number of infected patients and is the second European country with the highest number of cases.

But Italy is finally recording its first symbolic drop in the number of currently infected patients, according to The Local Italy and CTV News.

That drop has boosted the hope of worldwide leaders and health officials, that the tide might be turning in for Italy, hence would be for other countries.

Italy has just to keep on fighting to make it through, and now with renewed hope, and that’s probably the message Lebanon aims to give the Italian nation by lighting up the national museum with the Italian flag.

In a statement, the Embassy of Italy in Lebanon expressed its gratitude to the Lebanese Ministry of Culture – Directorate General of Antiquities for the symbolic act.

The shared commitment to the preservation and promotion of the Lebanese cultural heritage, with the support of the Italian Cooperation, is a concrete and living example of our partnership that we are particularly proud of,” said the statement.

The embassy also thanked the Municipality of Tyre for “projecting the Italian and Lebanese flags on the clock tower, expressing solidarity and proximity to Italy in these difficult times.”

Last month, Beirut’s National Museum lit up in solidarity with the Lebanese people, shining the colors of Lebanon’s flags.
