The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Hamad Saeed Al Shamsi, and the Governor of Beirut, Judge Ziad Chbib, launched the “Emirates Humanitarian Initiative” campaign aiming to sterilize places of worship, public places, gathering places, and streets in Beirut.

The project was launched in anticipation of the risks of the coronavirus outbreak, under the supervision and implementation of the Public Health Authority in Beirut, and in cooperation with the “Boecker” company.

The campaign, which was launched at dawn on Thursday, March 5th, will include in its first phase the areas of Karm Al-Zaitoun and Tariq Al-Jadeeda along with their suburbs.

According to NNA, Ambassador Al Shamsi said in the press release of the launching: “In cooperation between the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates and the Beirut Governorate, a humanitarian initiative was launched today.”

“It aimed at sterilizing the places, public gatherings, and streets that people frequent, especially in light of the spread of the coronavirus, which affects the whole world,” the UAE Ambassador explained.

“We have coordinated With the Governor of Beirut Ziad Shabib in this act that serves humanity in these difficult circumstances, as this disease continues to grow.”

He proceeded to say: “It is the first initiative of its kind in this context, and we hope to stand with Lebanon and its people in this ordeal that afflicts the world.”

Governer Chbib explained that the goal of the initiative is to reduce the risk of coronavirus spreading to Beirut and its residents. Specialists have drawn up a list of goals and sites to sterilize.

The sterilization began on Thursday to be continued in areas governed by the Beirut Municipality.

According to NNA, after the press conference, Al-Shamsi and Shabib inspected he field sterilization operations, visited the Ashrafieh and Tariq Al-Jdide, where they supervised the sterilization operations and were briefed on the proper progress of work.

The governor and the ambassador also visited the Khashoggi Mosque and the Sayedat Al A’ataya church, where they lit two candles as prayers for the people infected with the coronavirus.

In the same context, the sterilization of Rafic Hariri Airport in Beirut began, as part of the precautionary and preventive measures that the administration of the airport is strictly adopting, for a period of three months on a daily basis.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had asked directly the MEA company to sterilize the terminal building and the general aviation building under the supervision of a specialized company.

It is commendable how countries are coming together to help each other during these times that are highly challenging to the world. In parallel to this help from the UAE, Lebanon has just received hundreds of donations in coronavirus medical supplies from the Chinese community in Lebanon.
