On Wednesday, the Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi, along with the Lebanese Security Forces, and the customs personnel seized a shipment containing nearly 9 million Captagon pills hidden in a fake oranges cargo at the Beirut port.
In a tweet, Mawlawi assured that Lebanon is continuing its fight against the smuggling of drugs to the Arab Gulf countries as it seeks to maintain the best relations with them.
He stressed that all measures are being taken to prevent these shipments of “harm, death, and evil” to these countries.
The Lebanese authorities opened an investigation to know the process in which the smuggling goes through and the real exporters.
This is not the first time this happens. Lebanon has had serious issues with the Arab Gulf states because of drug shipments from the country.
Some of these states have even banned imports of agricultural products from Lebanon for that reason and boycotted the current Lebanese government.
