With the US Presidential Elections approaching, we were curious to see where Lebanese opinions stood, so we polled different segments of our readers.

While this isn’t an official poll, the results give an interesting glimpse into how Lebanese communities view the race. We polled three main groups:

    • Lebanese living in the US
    • Arabic-speaking Lebanese in Lebanon
    • English-speaking Lebanese in Lebanon

Across all segments, Donald Trump emerged as the clear favorite. Here’s how the numbers broke down:

    • Lebanese in America: Trump: 61.9%, Kamala Harris: 23.8%, Don’t Know: 2%, Other: 12.2%
    • Arabic-speaking Lebanese: Trump: 54.3%, Harris: 15.4%, Don’t Know: 22.2%, Other: 8%
    • English-speaking Lebanese: Trump: 65.1%, Harris: 16.6%, Don’t Know: 7.8%, Other: 10.5%

In every group, Trump held a significant lead over Harris, and in the Arabic-speaking segment, “Don’t Know” had a notable presence, placing second and Harris in 3rd.

A possible factor behind Trump’s popularity among Lebanese voters could be his tough stance on Iran, which resonates with many due to the growing anti-Hezbollah sentiment among Lebanese. As Hezbollah is backed by Iran, Trump’s policies have likely appealed to Lebanese who oppose Hezbollah’s influence in the country.

Kamala Harris, who came in second overall, had stronger support among English-speaking Lebanese, while many Arabic speakers expressed uncertainty, with a large portion choosing “Don’t Know.” This may reflect the distance or lack of familiarity with the US political system among Arabic speakers and more likely, the dominance of Trump in Arabic media coverage.

The results reveal an interesting split in Lebanese opinions, with Trump maintaining a dominant position across all segments, driven by his foreign policy stance, particularly towards Iran and Hezbollah. As the US election draws nearer, it will be interesting to see if these views evolve or remain firmly in Trump’s favor.

Additionally, Trump has a unique connection to Lebanon through his son-in-law, Michael Boulos. who married Tiffany Trump 2 years ago.
