A severely damaged building in Beirut’s Medawar area collapsed on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall. Fortunately, the building was deserted and there were no casualties.

The Internal Security Forces have warned citizens on Tuesday to stay away from buildings badly damaged by the blast, as well as trees, billboards, and poles, as a strong storm is currently charging through Lebanon.

We expect more of this through winter. Officials say scores of buildings — incl. some 60 heritage buildings — are at risk of collapse.pic.twitter.com/LV6V09NnbR

The Meteorological Department of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation has stated that Lebanon is expected to continue experiencing heavy rains until Friday.

Lebanon’s coastal areas, in particular, will continue to get impacted until then by the heavy thunderstorm and strong winds of more than 75 km per hour.

The ISF has even asked people to avoid walking around in the heavy rain and winds and to drive with caution to avoid higher risks of accidents.

The Beirut port explosion has put at least a quarter of the capital’s buildings at risk of collapsing. Unfortunately, not all of them are deserted. Many people are still living in their shattered houses without windows and doors and even broken roofs.

The state continues to fail to-date to lend adequate support and there is as much as the NGOs and volunteers can do to help out.
