In attempts to contain and reduce the spread of the coronavirus, more than 100 towns and villages in Lebanon from north to south will have to lock down for an entire week.
On Friday, the Ministry of Interior announced that a total of 111 Lebanese towns will be locked down starting Sunday, October 4th at 6 AM, and ending on the morning of Monday, October 12.
All social gatherings and events must be canceled, and public and private institutions are expected to close. However, hospitals, medical centers, pharmacies, bakeries, and supermarkets (delivery only) are all excluded from the lockdown.
These are the towns that must submit to the lockdown:
Lebanon has recently exceeded 1,000 daily recorded positive infections and the virus is far from being contained.
It has spread into crowded prisons, different government institutions, and even the presidential palace, putting President Michel Aoun at risk.
Recently, FPM leader Gebran Bassil, president Aoun’s son-in-law, even tested positive and was hospitalized upon doctor’s recommendation.
At this point, the nationwide nightly curfew from 1:00 AM until 6:00 AM still applies to everyone in all towns. There is an exception for those traveling to and from the airport.
