Iraq’s Fuel Donation To Lebanon Is Apparently Useless

Extending its help to Lebanon after the August 4 explosion, Iraq recently donated over a million liters of fuel to be used for electricity production, according to outgoing Energy Minister Raymond Ghajar.

The donation was taken to the Zahrani Power Plant. However, after examination, the donation would, unfortunately, be marked as not useful.

On Wednesday, Lebanon’s Energy Ministry released a statement stating that the 1,800,000 liters of gas oil donated by Iraq were not suitable for use in electricity factories and power plants.

The unsuitable fuel was therefore given to the army to distribute it to its units according to their needs.

Nevertheless, Lebanon’s Energy Ministry thanked Iraq for its gift and for standing by Lebanon during this difficult time.

Since early July, Lebanon has shown interest in importing crude oil from Iraq in exchange for other services. Iraq’s Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul Jabbar Ismail expressed Lebanon’s importance to Iraqis.

After the blast, Iraq assisted Lebanon by donating over 13,000 tons of wheat to fill the gap caused by the explosion of the grain silos at the port.
