In the wake of the explosion, Air France has been participating in Beirut relief efforts, under Solidarité Liban (Solidarity for Lebanon) campaign that has mobilized many outstanding initiatives by the French people.
Since the blast, Air France has been collecting in-kind donations, which include basic food products, childcare necessities, clothing, medical, and hygiene supplies.
The goods are being sent to Beirut and collected by the local Air France team and distributed to local organizations that are directly helping victims of the blast.
“Within the company, the message has been spread far and wide. An entire network of volunteer staff is mobilizing to collect, pack and load the parcels on board flight AF566 to Beirut,” Air France said in a press release.
The first shipment left France on August 13th. So far, Air France has delivered over 3 tonnes of donations and says it will continue the initiative until further notice.
In addition, passengers bound to Beirut from Paris through the airline are allowed to carry an additional piece of baggage free of charge, which has been also supporting the initiative Les Valises Pour Beyrouth.
That initiative has been collecting donations and sending them with travelers to three non-political NGOs in Lebanon.
Air France’s offer will continue until September 20th to “enable customers to take essential items to Lebanon,” said Air France that continues to fly to Beirut three times a week.
