The United Nations has been stepping up to help Beirut and its citizens ever since Beirut Port exploded and took down with it a major part of the capital.
The destruction is massive, several districts have been severely impacted, buildings have crumbled or are barely standing, homes have been destroyed, hospitals have been ruined, and hundreds of thousands have become homeless.
It will take a long time for Beirut to recover. All assistance is needed for the fallen city of Beirut and its citizens.
“The impact of the explosions has been catastrophic in Lebanon, a country already facing a serious economic and social crisis, and the COVID19 pandemic,” the UN tweeted on Friday, announcing its launching of a $565 million appeal for Lebanon.
The UN, which teams have been already helping on the ground, committed to overseeing the direct distribution of the funds in essentialities to the people and hospitals, as well as in assisting in the reconstruction of Beirut, and more.
In addition to that, the UN will host on Sunday, August 16th, a virtual concert of solidarity with the people and to raise funds for the Lebanese Red Cross.
The concert will be live-streamed on their Web TV as of 7 PM, Beirut time, (12 PM EST), featuring International Supranist and UN ambassador Tania Kassis, singing for her homeland.
Several personalities will be participating with their messages, notably Richard Blewit, Head of Delegation of The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to the UN.
Therefore, people from around the world can enjoy the virtual concert while helping victims of the Beirut explosion.
