Protesters have broken into the building of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry in Beirut, declaring it the “headquarters of the revolution.”
On Saturday evening, during massive anti-government protests in Beirut, retired military personnel advanced into the building, hung up flags saying, “Beirut is a demilitarized city,” and, “Beirut is the capital of the revolution.”
Some of the protesters removed the pictures of President Michel Aoun that were hung on the Ministry’s interior walls and broke them. Protesters have also broken into the building of the Ministry of Economy.
Meanwhile, security forces continue to clash with the protesters on the streets of Beirut.
The Lebanese Red Cross said that its teams have transported 32 injuries from Central Beirut to hospitals while 113 cases were treated in place. Additionally, a building has reportedly caught fire.
On that note, local media reported the death of a security forces member while the violence continues.
Notably, Parliamentary Police has denied the news that its members had shot live rounds at protesters, calling the claim “fabricated.”
The protests started late on Saturday, days after the Beirut Port explosion that shook the Lebanese capital and caused numerous casualties.
