Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Dua Lipa recently shared a post about Lebanon wherein she expressed support for the country and its people.
“What’s Happening in Lebanon & What You Can Do to Help” is a recent social media post created by the Slow Factory Foundation.
As the title suggests, the post takes viewers briefly through Lebanon’s problems and suggests actions that anyone around the world can take to help alleviate some of the Lebanese people’s suffering.
On Sunday, Dua Lipa shared the post on her Instagram story. It provides the contact information of several humanitarian organizations active in Lebanon, such as FoodBlessed, for interested donors to contribute.
The acclaimed English pop singer’s move generated eager responses from her followers and fans in Lebanon, with some commenting that she has done more for Lebanon than its own politicians.
Some went a step further and tweeted “Dua Lipa for president.”
While Lipa is most widely famous for her artistic work, she is also an active philanthropist who is known to have supported vulnerable people around the world.
The aforementioned post that she shared with her 48.8 million Instagram followers is not the first instance of her showing support to Lebanon and shedding light on its problems.
In April 2019, she supported UNICEF by coming to the country where she spent 3 days and interacted with numerous children.
She visited refugee camps and spoke to Lebanese and non-Lebanese kids and youth in various locations in Beirut and the Beqaa Valley about the obstacles they face in their daily lives, such as their lack of formal education.
On that note, education is one of the many sectors in Lebanon that are threatened by the economic meltdown as well as the pandemic that has contributed to it.
With over 80% of the Lebanese pound’s value lost against the US dollar over a few months, experts have warned of more chaos, poverty, hunger, and crime in the coming months.
