The Rafik Hariri International Airport will not open on June 8th as previously planned, stated the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Michel Najjar, according to LBCI.
Minister Najjar advanced that the airport is estimated to open instead by June 21st. However, the date remains subject to change based on the unfoldings of the coronavirus situation in Lebanon.
In order to wane the spread of the virus, the airport has been closed since mid-March, only opening for repatriation flights. Lebanon’s national carrier, Middle East Airlines, is now in the fourth stage of evacuation.
Currently, there have been 1,220 recorded cases of coronavirus in Lebanon and 27 deaths. While there are new cases every day, the Lebanese government has decided to reopen the country.
Several malls have now officially reopened, as of June 1st, and multiple resorts and pools across Lebanon are already back to business since May 23rd.
As for the lockdown curfew, it has been extended to midnight until 5:00 AM. Meanwhile, face masks are still mandatory and people are urged to follow the Ministry of Health’s guidelines and take maximum safety precautions,
