The Lebanese University (L.U.) just achieved an advanced world ranking. It was ranked among the top 300 universities globally, the tenth in the Middle East, and the second locally after AUB in the Times Higher Education ranking of 2020.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 includes almost 1,400 universities across 92 countries, standing as the largest and most diverse university rankings ever to date.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Lebanese University ranked 83rd in the world out of the one thousand universities for “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, 101-200 for “Partnerships for the goals”, 201-300 for “Climate Action”, 201-300 for “Responsible Consumption and Production”, 101-300 for “Reducing Inequalities”, 301-400 for “Gender Equality”, 401-600 for “Quality Education”, 301-400 for “Good Health and Well-Being” criteria, and between 201-300 overall.
The “decent work and economic growth” goal measures universities’ economics research, their employment practices and the share of students taking work placements.
The goal is related to “promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and full and productive employment, and decent work for all.” That means the desire of local and global labor markets to recruit and confide in the graduates of the Lebanese University.
In his message to the Lebanese people and L.U. students, professors, and all employees, past and present, the university’s president Professor Fouad Ayoub stated:
“After the Lebanese University obtained international accreditation by the High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education institutions (HCERES) in Europe and France, this year it applied for the first time in its history to participate in university rankings conducted by international institutions.”
“We, at the heart of these dark conditions that Lebanon is witnessing, raise this bright spot,” he proudly proclaimed.
Noting that this ranking coincided with the 69th anniversary of the founding of the Lebanese University.
