In a press conference on Wednesday, April 15th, the Minister of Public Health Hamad Hassan launched a health alert service through MOPH’s business WhatsApp account.

The service will serve as a tool to help inform people of the newest updates regarding the pandemic.

All you have to do is send “Hi” to the number +961 76 592 699 then send ‘1’ for English or ‘2’ for Arabic. The automated reply will welcome you and give you ways to request information ranging from the latest news and numbers to useful tips.

Here’s what the reply looks like:

Along with the WhatsApp health alert service, the NNA reports that the Ministry of Health also introduced a program “prepared by LU (Lebanese University) aimed at tracking positive COVID-19 cases or those suspected of having contracted the virus.”

According to the National News Agency, Minister Hassan met with WHO Lebanon to discuss “the best means to enhance cooperation between the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health in the context of strengthening efforts to control the Coronavirus pandemic.”

WHO’s Deputy Regional Director stressed that there should be no easing of the lockdown for the meanwhile.

The lockdown, which began on March 15th has already been extended for the second time. As of now, it will reportedly be listed on April 26th, which is likely due to change.
