According to USA Today, the Hollywood actor George Clooney and the Lebanese-British barrister Amal Clooney just donated over one million dollars towards coronavirus (COVID-19) relief. The famous couple included Lebanon in their donation.
The one million dollars has been donated to six areas: 3 local ones in America, and 3 international. The donation is aimed at assisting countries in their fight against the pandemic and its consequences on communities.
The Clooneys donated $250,000 each to The Motion Picture and Television Home where George Clooney is a board member.
According to Deadline Magazine, the Motion Picture and Television Home fund provides “temporary financial assistance for needs created or complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Clooneys have also donated to the AFM Sag-AFTRA Fund and the Los Angeles Mayors Fund. All three funding programs work differently but are now assisting in relief aids for those affected with the pandemic.
As for the three international areas, a sum of $300,000 was sent out to Italy, Britain, and Lebanon. The three international charities are Lebanese Food Bank, Lombardo Italy Region, and the NHS.
Lebanese Food Bank is a Lebanese non-profit organization that aims to provide assistance to Lebanese people living in poverty. The organization was established in 2012.
“At present, we provide food on a daily basis to families and individuals in need mainly through the collection of surplus food from partner restaurants, hotels, caterers, supermarkets, and fruit and vegetables, food exporters/importers,” Lebanese Food Bank states in its website.
“Our main line of work is to provide food to a selected number of more than 70 Lebanese NGOs active in a variety of fields,” the organization explained.
The Clooney’s generous donation is one of many that Lebanon has been graciously accepting in aid against the pandemic and the economic and financial crises the country has been facing.
