A Lebanese doctor has passed away after treating coronavirus victims in Brazil. This news comes after having recently lost another Lebanese doctor who died from contracting the virus after saving lives in France.
The 60-year-old George Antar from Dakoueh, a town in West Bekaa, was treating virus-affected patients in Sao Paulo hospitals when he got also infected. He died last week in Brazil during his work.
Dr. Antar was a gynecologist who had joined in on the fight against the pandemic as all medical staff is being required to aid in any way possible.
As of today, there are over 10,000 actives cases in Brazil. The global pandemic has reached over 1 million people and taken the lives of over 50,000 people.
It is to note that the number of people recovering is much higher than those who have unfortunately lost the fight and that the entire world united in this fight.
Companies have even jumped in and are doing their part during this crisis, using their products and production power for the greater good.
That has been also relevant in Lebanon when many initiatives are actively helping, whether financially or by direct actions in helping the hospitals and the health workers.
One is the initiative taken by car rental shops to provide free rental cars to nurses so they can get to their jobs safely. Similarly, owners of Airbnbs in Lebanon have been offering their places free of charge to the health workers.
Dr. George Antar is another hero who has fallen in this global war the world’s health workers are fighting relentlessly against the COVID-19.
