In the context of Elio Abou Hanna’s murder in the Palestinian camp in Lebanon by Palestinian militiamen, many are asking questions surrounding how this happened.
Agreements such as the 1969 Cairo Agreement, as well as informal ones, prevented Lebanese security forces from entering Palestinian camps and empowered the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and other Palestinian factions to create effective no-go zones and hubs of lawlessness and cesspools for criminals, militias, drug smugglers, and arms dealers for decades.
Most camps are located on public, state-owned, or church-owned lands.
