The former Lebanese Minister of State for Administrative Development May Chidiac just confirmed that she tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

May Chidiac is a former media personality who worked as a television journalist at LBCI and as reporter and news anchor in Lebanon’s national radio.

She was assigned a minister of state for administrative development in 2019 under former prime minister Saad Hariri government.

Chidiac survived an assassination attempt in 2005 but was seriously injured afterward. She was in stable condition following the amputation of her severely injured left arm.

In a statement, Chidiac confirmed that she tested positive for the emerging coronavirus (COVID-19) after she arrived back in Lebanon from France a few days before Beirut International Airport was shut down.

The media office of the former minister said in a statement quoting her: “After my return from Paris last week, I had some symptoms consistent with the coronavirus (COVID-19). I immediately proceeded to home quarantine.”

“Last Saturday, I performed medical examinations at Hotel-Dieu Hospital to confirm the cause of the symptoms. The results were out Monday and were positive.”

Chidiac proceeded to say; “after the results came out, I confirmed that I had the coronavirus (COVID-19). I then went to the hospital immediately for treatment.”

“I point out that my condition is not critical and, God willing, I will soon join the list of the people who fully recovered from the coronavirus (COVID-19),” Chidiac concluded.

Chidiac is the second former minister to test positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19), after the former minister of finance Mohammad Al-Safadi also confirmed that he has the virus earlier this week.

Both ministers have stated that they remain in good health despite being infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19). They both are in quarantine being treated.

The Ministry of Public Health announced that as of Tuesday, March 23rd, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) confirmed cases has reached 267.
