Amer Bissat is a prominent economic expert and investor, currently serving as the Global Head of Emerging Markets Fixed Income at BlackRock, where he leads a specialized team in managing investment portfolios in debt instruments in emerging markets.
Before joining BlackRock, Amer was a partner at two major hedge funds, Traxis and Rubicon, where he gained extensive experience in portfolio management. He also held positions in investment management at UBS and Morgan Stanley.
He had experience as a senior economist at the International Monetary Fund from 1991 to 1998, where he contributed to the development of high-level economic programs in countries such as Russia, Ukraine, and Egypt, allowing him to interact with complex and diverse economic environments.
Amer Bissat began his academic career at the American University of Beirut, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
He then moved to Columbia University in New York, where he earned his Ph.D. in Economics and Finance. During that time, he had a valuable experience at the World Bank.
Bissat transitioned to the private sector to occupy strategic positions in major financial institutions. He started as an economist responsible for emerging market economics in Europe.
In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Amer is also a social activist. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Arab American National Museum and Alwan for the Arts.
He is married to Nadia Abu-Haj, an anthropology professor at Columbia and Barnard.
