    Who is Ahmed Al-Hajjar, Lebanon’s New Minister of Interior and Municipalities

    Ahmed Al-Hajjar is a retired senior officer in the Internal Security Forces (ISF) Directorate-General, with an extensive career in various key positions.


    He served as the head of the Intelligence Office in the Information Branch, Assistant Head of the Planning and Organization Division, and Head of the Beirut Information Branch. Additionally, he was in charge of the Administrative Affairs Division and commanded the Government Presidency Guard Company.


    Al-Hajjar played a pivotal role in coordinating European Union-funded projects aimed at supporting the ISF, and he also led collaboration with the British Police Support Team (BPST). He chaired the Committee for the Reform and Development of Municipal Police within the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, overseeing the execution of over 20 agreements to support the ISF.

    He led hundreds of officers and security personnel in various roles and supervised numerous development projects in partnership with multiple countries and donor organizations.


    He held the position of head of the security sector in Lebanon and was a member of the leadership council of Lebanon’s security institutions. His final role was as the Head of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces Institute.


    Regarding his academic background, Al-Hajjar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Military Sciences from the Lebanese Military Academy.

    He also earned a degree in Information Technology Analysis and Programming (INFO/1) from Paris. He further pursued studies in Criminal Justice and Police Management, receiving a postgraduate diploma from the University of Leicester, UK, and a Master’s degree in Law and Security Policy from the Faculty of Law at Jean Moulin University, France.
