Crime has reemerged in Lebanon, particularly concerning theft-related murders, sparking alarm among citizens.

Experts note a staggering 100% increase in the crime rate since the beginning of this year compared to the same period last year.

In a recent tragic incident, two individuals of Syrian nationality gained entry into the home of N.T. in the “Sioufi Gates” building in the Achrafieh, aided by a household helper from of the same nationality.

They proceeded to steal valuables and assault homeowners (husband and wife) before fleeing the scene with the helper.

The elderly man was brutally attacked, while his wife sustained injuries. Rushed to the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries.

While no arrests have been made, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) are actively pursuing the case, confirmed sources stated.

Responding to reports linking a domestic worker to the Sioufi crime, The Syndicate of Domestic Workers Recruitment Agencies clarified that no licensed entity operating under the name of the office in which the helper was hired was involved in the recruitment.

They cautioned against potential violations by cleaning companies or illegitimate establishments employing workers outside residency requirements.

They also encourage legal action, advising citizens to verify licenses before hiring domestic workers and pledged collaboration with authorities to combat illegal practices.

Crime rates in Lebanon have seen a sharp increase in the first quarter of this year, with a surge of 91.3% in fatalities and a staggering 150% rise in kidnappings.

According to the researcher Mohamad Shamseddin from “International Information”, this spike is linked to the deteriorating security situation, economic collapse, and reduced police presence.

He highlighted the pressing need for immediate action to address the underlying cause of this alarming trend.
