Recently, internet services in Lebanon have been significantly disrupted, particularly affecting Alfa subscribers in various regions.
The Minister of Telecommunication, in the caretaker government, Johnny Al Korm, addressed the cause of this issue in an interview with “Annahar”, explaining “that the internet outage is a result of a warning strike conducted by Ogero employees to enforce their demands.”
Adding “that the Ministry of Finance has been deliberating on the matter for 10 days, awaiting approval, with the request set to be presented to the cabinet for discussion in the next month’s session.
Ogero employees have not received their dues from the salary increase as mandated by decrees approved in the 2024 budget.
The interruption of the Alfa network is attributed to the cessation of operations at the Fataa Central. This shutdown has resulted in the closure of Alfa’s centers from Chekka Tunnel to Akkar.
The exact cause of the central shutdown remains unidentified but is speculated to be either a malfunction in the generator engines or a shortage of diesel fuel.
From their side, Alfa company acknowledged a slowdown in some services on their network in a released statement, saying that they are “coordinating with the Ministry of Telecommunication and Ogero to resolve the issue promptly.”
However, sources within Ogero employees have confirmed that the internet and communication disruption within Alfa will persist, with faults remaining undressed.
Employees plan to resume their strike next week without physically attending work centers, emphasizing their demand to revert salary values to pre-crisis levels.
Action is expected soon, underscoring the need for communication and resolution.
This isn’t the first instance of Ogero employees striking and disrupting the internet. In previous years, Ogero employees rejected their working conditions and carried out multiple strikes.
