In a significant development, Wafik Safa, Head of Hezbollah’s Liaison and Coordination Unit, has made a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aboard a private plane, accompanied by two individuals.

This move comes amidst evolving regional dynamics and ongoing geopolitical shifts.

In its account on the “X” platform, “Al-Jadeed” reported the news: “Hezbollah’s liaison and coordination officer, Hajj Wafiq Safa, headed to the Emirates on Monday on a private plane, accompanied by two people.”

Al-Jadeed explained that “according to its information,” Wafiq Safa’s visit to the Emirates aims to investigate the file of Lebanese detainees there and return them before the end of the month of Ramadan.

In May 2023, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the release of 10 Lebanese detainees held in the Emirates, following notification from Abu Dhabi.

According to a statement, Lebanese Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Fouad Chehab Dandan, relayed the news of the detainees’ release, who were arrested approximately two months prior.

The statement expressed gratitude to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and relevant Emirati authorities for their cooperation in resolving the issue.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdullah Bu Habib, emphasized the importance of strengthening fraternal relations between Lebanon and the Emirates for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.

On May 15, families of Lebanese detainees in UAE prisons staged a protest outside the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging officials to expedite the release of their loved ones, particularly following the reported death of detainee Ghazi Ezz El-Din.
