A citizen identified as W.B. was detained by an intelligence patrol for burning a Christmas tree in Zahrieh, Tripoli, on December 24, 2023, using a Molotov bomb.
This act of vandalism has raised concerns about safety during the festive season.
Noting that a Christmas tree in the Zahrieh area of Tripoli was completely burned down after unknown individuals threw a Molotov bomb at it early Sunday morning. Security and military forces arrived promptly to investigate the incident.
Politicians, including MP Ashraf Rifi and MP Elie Khoury, strongly condemned the act, emphasizing that it contradicts the spirit of the religious and communal harmony of Tripoli. They highlighted that the act was ignorant and cowardly, targeting not just a community but the city as a whole.
The Minister of Information in the caretaker government, Ziad Makary, also spoke out against the burning, stressing Tripoli’s history of peace and coexistence.
