Once again, China steps up to help Lebanon fight the coronavirus spread while its own country is battling the worst since the onset of this outbreak.

On Thursday afternoon, Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon, Wang Kejian, posted on his personal social pages that two human temperature measuring equipment has been deployed in Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport.

The screening equipment is a donation from Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co. to confront the new Coronavirus. The Ambassador added that this equipment takes the passengers’ temperatures without contact.

“We will continue to do our best to prevent and control the epidemic in our country, and China is confident in its capacity to defeat the epidemic very soon,” the ambassador said during his meeting with President Michel Aoun in Beirut, according to Xinhua media.

Ambassador Wang noted that there is constructive cooperation between Lebanon and China to contain this disease, through daily consultations between the Chinese Embassy in Beirut and the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Despite fighting their own fierce battle against COVID-19, the Chinese didn’t hesitate in donating earlier hundreds of medical supplies to Lebanon.

Just last Wednesday, the Lebanese Health Ministry received a batch of medical equipment from Chinese companies and Chinese people residing in Lebanon.

On a similar effort, just on Monday afternoon, Lebanon received a batch of medical supplies shipped from France.

These supports from friendly countries are most welcome by Lebanon that has been already undergoing severe economic and financial crises for a long while now.

Moreover, this global outbreak concerns every country and mutual support among all nations is crucial to overcome it.

Lebanon needs all the medical help it can get as its governmental hospitals have been lacking updated equipment and medical supplies, especially Rafik Hariri University Hospital (RHUH), the leading hospital in this national fight.

The country is witnessing a daily increase in the number of affected cases. On Friday, the Health Ministry confirmed that one of its employees has tested positive, which brings the total of COVID-19 cases in Lebanon to 77.

In addition to the measures taken at the airport and across the country with the closure of gathering facilities, Lebanon has stopped flights from and to several affected countries.

In an act of support in this national fight against the outbreak, Ogero telecommunication has stepped up to do its part, doubling the internet speed and capacity for free for a month so people stay home.

Lebanese citizens are being urged to take all the precautions needed to overcome the hazardous situation and take this matter seriously yet without panic.

As stated this week by Canada’s Chief Health Officer, the people have also a responsibility in this fight, and they must do their part “to keep each other safe.”
