Premio Lo Nuestro is a glamourous award event that launched in 1989 in the US to honor the best of Latin Music.
This year, its 32nd edition just took place in Miami on February 20th in the AmericanAirlines Arena and was aired live on Univision TV. The glorious ceremony was hosted by Thalia, Pitbull, and Alejandra Espinosa.
Like all such events of celebrities, glamour and glitz are fully present. Artists wear the best dresses and present themselves at their very best to make sure that all cameras are on them.
This year, in particular, a designer’s name made the news as being behind some of the best looks of the Premio Lo Nuestro prestigious event: Giannina Azar, a Lebanese-Dominican designer.
Azar has been making waves in the fashion industry, standing as one of the most sought after Latin dressmakers. When glamour is the aim, celebrities seek her.
She has dressed celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, and Natti Natasha. Jennifer Lopez wore one of her designs for the cover of her single El Anillo.
The magnificent designs of Giannina Azar stole the spotlights during that event. Gloria Trevi, Sandra Echeverria, Clarissa Molina, and Nadia Ferreira were among the celebrities who wore gowns of her design.
Gloria Trevi wore an all-over crystals’ gown with whimsical tulle flowing down from her shoulders. She looked nothing short of stunning.
Sandra Echeverria attracted the cameras with a daring white see-through gown of rhinestones that made her the jewel of the night.
Azar’s style aims for glitz and hypnotizing embroidered crystals. “My style is avant-garde for a woman who wants to be the center of attention,” she explained in an interview with Fashion Vitrine.
That was evident with her designed gown that Clarissa Molina graced the red carpet with; an elegant and glamourous beige dress of tulle and feathers.
Azar has also distinguished herself with her creation of handmade ethnic robes. She attributed her inspiration to her Lebanese roots from her paternal side.
Nadia Ferreira was also not less spectacular in a gown by Azar whose fashion shows have taken by storm the catwalks of the world main cities, including Dubai, New York, Madrid…
“My dad was Lebanese. There is the exotic of Lebanon and the color of my country, which is where my mother is from,” she stated, crediting her success to both her Lebanese and Dominican roots.
Giannina Azar elaborates on the influence of both her cultural heritage, saying: “I believe that the success of my career has been based on that, on the colorful and tropical that gives that cheerful touch, and on the Lebanese side, all that exotic side of the stones and embroidery.”
Indeed, Giannina Azar has been very successful in her field. She is based both in Miami and Santo Domingo, and presents her fashion shows in various world main cities.
She has been nicknamed the Maestra de la Moda: the Master of Fashion.
