The Lebanese Army is set to rebuild its naval base, which was damaged during the Beirut port explosion in August 2020, with the help of the international community.

Lebanon’s navy will be crucial in safeguarding new potential gas deals that could offer a much-needed financial lifeline to the beleaguered nation.

According to a report by Breaking Defense, the main objective of the restoration is to establish a typical naval base that contains all the life necessities for the military, in addition to all the logistical and operational components, so that the existing and expected vessels in the future can carry out the tasks assigned to them to the fullest.

Navy Commander Senior Capt. Haissam Dannaoui told Breaking Defense, “The construction work for this center is nearing completion. Work is currently underway to equip these buildings.”

Lebanon’s natural resources, namely possible future oil installations, need to be protected.

The country’s navy will play a crucial role in safeguarding these resources, as well as securing Lebanon’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), according to Breaking Defense’s report.

With international help, the Lebanese military is getting ready to rebuild its naval base just as the navy will be needed to help protect the country’s resources.

The devastating port explosion of 2020 only added to the economic woes of the already struggling nation, making the need for these gas deals all the more urgent.

The rebuilt naval base will be equipped with all the necessary components to ensure that the Lebanese navy can fulfill its responsibilities in protecting the country’s natural resources.

The international community has stepped up to help Lebanon rebuild its naval base. The country has suffered from political instability and economic decline for years, and the port explosion only made things worse.
