The Ministry of Public Health issued a statement announcing the first recorded case of cholera, on October 5, in the Akkar Governorate in North Lebanon.
The statement added that the patient’s condition is stable and he is receiving treatment in the hospital.
It should be noted that this is the first case in Lebanon since the date of the last cholera outbreak in 1993.
Cholera is manifested by acute diarrhea caused by an infection of the intestine with Vibrio cholerae bacteria found in contaminated food or water. Infections generally range from mild to sometimes severe and life-threatening.
Back in June, cases of Jaundice appeared in North Lebanon, exceeding 250, which prompted the health ministry to implement measures to counter the outbreak.
