The Minister of the Displaced in the Lebanese caretaker government, Dr. Issam Sharaf El-Din, indicated that “the Syrian authorities are serious about returning the displaced Syrians to their homeland, and are ready to cooperate with the Lebanese General Security to coordinate their return.”
In an interview with “Voice of Lebanon” radio, Sharaf El-Din pointed out that the security of the returnees to Syria is guaranteed by the Syrian authorities, noting that “any Syrian person who wants to stay in Lebanon must obtain a residence permit and a work permit through Ministry of Interior Affairs.”
He stated that “the UN bodies and the UNHCR are pressuring the caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, to obstruct the file of the displaced Syrians, and the United States and Europe are pressuring Mikati to politically invest in this file.”
In the same context, the General Directorate of Public Security announced, in a statement, today, Thursday, that the settlement of Syrian nationals who had entered Lebanon illegally before April 24, 2019, has begun, with the exception of those against whom judicial measures are taken, exclusively in the regional centers.
The statement indicated that “requests to settle the situation are accepted from today until December 30, 2022, inclusive.”
