The Lebanese journalist Dima Sadek is again the target of an incitement death campaign calling for her killing publicly in response to her tweet on Saturday, August 13th.
The tweet included a photo of the previous Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini with the caption “The Satanic Verses.”
Her tweet came as a reaction to the attempt assassination of the British author Salman Rushdie while he was giving a lecture in west New York by a Lebanese descent in the US radicalized in Lebanon.
Rushdie has been threatened with death since an Iranian “fatwa” was issued against him in 1989, a year after the publication of his novel The Satanic Verses.
In a new tweet, Dima announced that she is subject to a public killing incitement campaign launched by Jawad Nasrallah, the son of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.
She called on the Lebanese authorities to consider her tweet as a notification of the campaign against her. She attached several screenshots to her message, including incitement and threats of murder and rape.
Nasrallah’s son started the campaign in a tweet, with the hashtag “Dima,” where he stated that “regimes use certain tools to do their dirty work, but without dirtying themselves, and an example of these tools is this poison that has overtaken them in its decadence.”
It is not the first time Jawad Nasrallah has used his Twitter account to incite against opponents of Hezbollah.
In the wake of the assassination of the intellectual Lokman Slim, who was shot dead in South Lebanon, Jawad Nasrallah saluted the assassination in a tweet published shortly after the supposed time of the murder. The tweet was later deleted.
The S.K.eyes Center for Media and Cultural Freedom condemned this campaign of “incitement and threat of murder and rape” against Dima Sadek.
Sadek, a Shiite, is well-known for her open opposition to Hezbollah. She has been repeatedly a target of cyber-harassment and incitement to murder campaigns by supporters of the Iranian-backed Lebanese party Hezbollah and the Amal Movement.
