Allegations were previously made against the Maronite Archbishop of Haifa and the Holy Land, Moussa Al-Hajj, accusing him of transferring money and medicine from Lebanese in Israel to their relatives in Lebanon.
On May 5, 2022, the military court issued a decision declaring the lack of jurisdiction and the inability of the Lebanese military judiciary to prosecute the Maronite Archbishop of Haifa and the Holy Land Moussa Al-Hajj.
However, on Monday, July 18th, Archbishop Al-Hajj was detained at the Naqoura post when returning from Israel based on a decision by the military investigative judge Fadi Akiki.
The interrogation reportedly lasted for eight hours.
Claims of mistreatment of the Archbishop circulated the media and social media after his arrest, which brought the General Directorate on July 21st to issue a statement rejecting the claims.
The General Directorate explained in its statement that, in addition to the judicial notice, the measures applied to Archbishop Al-Hajj apply to all people crossing to and from the occupied Palestinian territories without exception,
It also denied rumors of a call between Major Gen. Abbas Ibrahim and Patriarch Al-Raï, calling them “malicious intentions to trouble the excellent relationship between the patriarchal edifice and the Director General.”
