Israeli officials considered filing a complaint with the U.N. over Hezbollah’s attempted drone attack on an exploration ship crossing the disputed maritime zone. This is despite the Lebanese government condemning Hezbollah’s drone launch.

Reportedly, the idea has since been shelved at Washington’s request. Israel decided to refrain from filing the complaint while U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea placed pressure on PM Najib Mikati to avoid “negative developments that might affect the U.S. mediator’s tour,” according to al-Akhbar.

It was also noted that the U.S. stance is in part aimed at minimizing the impact of President Joe Biden’s visit to the region.

The Americans are reportedly requesting a positive outcome in regards to the negotiations on the demarcation file.

Leaked reports indicate that Israel is willing to make several concessions with Lebanon amidst the negotiations, including “granting Lebanon the entire Qana field without financial compensations.|

However, the final “zig-zag” negotiated maritime boundary remains to be seen.
