On Thursday, the families of the Beirut Port blast detainees staged a sit-in in front of the Palace of Justice asking for their release.

According to LBCI, the number of detainees reached 17, and “the families met prior to the sit-in with Judge Souhail Abboud, and after the sit-in, they will meet with Caretaker Minister of Justice Henri Khoury.”

On July 4th, families of victims of the explosion staged a sit-in in front of the Port to commemorate 23 months since the tragedy.

On Wednesday, Deputy House Speaker Elias Bou Saab met with a delegation of the families of the victims after the meeting was on hold for six months.

“I have spoken to all concerned sides, and I have contacted the President of the Republic, the House Speaker, the Prime Minister, the Justice Minister, and the Higher Judicial Council chief,” Bou Saab said, according to the state-run NNA.

He explained that “the file is on hold because the decree relevant to the cassation court’s appointments has been signed.”

It has been almost 2 years since the tragic Beirut Blast that quaked the capital and shook the nation on August 4th, 2020, and no justice has been yet served. The investigation continues to drag by political interferences and lawsuits.
