UNICEF instigated the development of its new Lebanon Country Programme Document (CPD) corresponding to the years 2023-2025. The CPD develops strategies and plans in line with the new United Nations Frameworks. This includes plans to enhance the ability of children and youth to access basic social services.
On Tuesday, June 28, Multiple stakeholders, including high government officials and organizations, the Lebanese civil society, and other UN agencies took part in the discussions at the National Library of Lebanon for the new Lebanon CPD.
All stakeholders expressed their commitment to helping facilitate and increase the accessibility of young children and youth to basic social services, namely education, health, and protection.
Edouard Beigbeder, Lebanon’s UNICEF representative stressed the recent changes in Lebanon’s conditions, saying that the “Country Programme needs to reflect the new reality where UNICEF is operating.”
“We are consulting with partners and communities on how to best serve children and young people’s needs and fundamental rights – which today are more at risk,” he continued in a statement issued by UNICEF.
Dr. George Kallas, the Minister of Youth and Sports, representing Prime Minister Najib Mikati, recognized the efforts of UNICEF and their importance in securing a “future for the children in Lebanon,” the statement indicated.
The new “Country Programme” set by UNICEF focuses on preventing the further deterioration of children’s access to basic social services.
The program will be finalized this year in accordance with UNICEF’s targets to build a better, sustainable future for all children in Lebanon.
