Aintoura El-Maten is a stunning and scenic Lebanese town located about 38 km from Beirut.
Rising 1,250 meters above sea level, the grandiose aspect of this town’s nature is featured in breathtaking sceneries, clean springs, and wild and green trees, most famously the pine trees.
The word “Aintoura” has an interesting etymology. It is a Syriac name originally “Ain Toro” referring to the mountains that surround the town and its water springs.
This peaceful town is also home to old houses that witnessed through the centuries the lives of hundreds of inhabitants and their traditions.
According to recorded history, some of these old houses were abandoned by their residents escaping the oppression of the Mamluks in 1307.
Among Aintoura’s most prominent landmarks are the Qattin Azar Cave and the archaeological Mar Nohra Church dating back to 1836.
Aintoura is famous for its fertile lands producing apples, potatoes, and various vegetables in the summer.
