The short animated documentary Future’s Resistance about the Beirut Blast, created by senior student Duncan Lauer of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), has been selected and screened at various film festivals.

Future’s Resistance centers on Lauer’s best friend, a young woman in Beirut during the aftermath of the Beirut explosion that quaked the Lebanese capital and beyond.

The documentary, which was part of Lauer’s documentary production class, follows a young Lebanese woman who gets caught up in a giant protest and begins questioning her faith in her country.

The media studies major’s animated documentary debuted at two film festivals, FullBloom and ChangeFest in 2021, and was nominated for Best International Short Film at the Screen Power Film Festival, an international film and script award contest held in London.

The short documentary directed by Duncan Lauer and starred by Sahar Al Akhrass was also officially selected for the Raleigh Film and Art Festival for the Best Talent of 2021 and won two awards from Impact Docs with the Award of Recognition for Student Short Documentary, and the Award of Student Animation.

The filmmaker senior student is also a photographer and an artist with many works in his portfolio. He is set to graduate this year with a bachelor’s degree in media studies.

The young American filmmaker did more than create a documentary about the Beirut Blast.

He launched many calls to help Lebanon, urging people to donate to the Lebanese Red Cross and hospitals impacted by the Blast, like the Saint George Hospital, Geitaoui Hospital, and other main hospitals in Beirut.

Here is the trailer of the short documentary:
