Victims and survivors within the Lebanese judicial system can now call a hotline for legal aid and have access to a range of legal services, from information and assistance to representation and psychological support.

Launched recently by Legal Action Lebanon, the program is funded by GFFO (Federal Foreign Office funding for political participation and democracy in the MENA region) and provides legal assistance and representation to individuals in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

Legal Action Lebanon is a Beirut-based non-profit organization founded in 2018 and is fully funded and supported by Legal Action Worldwide (LAW), an independent non-profit organization of international human rights lawyers and jurists.

Its Legal Aid project is run by a team of Lebanese lawyers who work closely with LAW “to develop innovative legal strategies designed to increase access to justice for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), the stateless, and other groups who have suffered human rights violations and abuses.”

LAW has been providing Legal Action Lebanon with full support, including training and policy expertise to build its team’s capacity in tackling ongoing critical issues in Lebanon.

These include human rights violations, immigration status, nationality, gender, sexuality, and discriminatory laws against women and girls.

It also addresses “the roots of inequalities compounded by discriminatory legislation, practices, and traditions.”

LAW and Legal Aid Lebanon have also been involved in the case of the Ethiopian migrant worker who has taken her former employer and recruiter to court, a ground-breaking criminal case that might topple the Kafala System in Lebanon.

If you or someone you know have been a victim within the Lebanese judicial system, you can now call Legal Action Lebanon‘s hotline: 81-315 001.
