The Lebanese Minister of Labor, Mustafa Bayram, signed a draft decree with a daily transportation allowance of 65,000 LBP to the private sector workers.

Following the meeting, Bayram said: “We held a productive meeting with the transport unions in Lebanon in the presence of members from various Lebanese regions and various unions, which cover 53,000 families.”

The meeting gathered a number of participants and witnessed an agreement signed with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Works and Transport, the Minister of Finance, and the Interior Minister.

It was agreed that contact will be made with Prime Minister Najib Mikati in order to remind him of the provision of the agreement on the basis of which the open strike was suspended last month.

It is required from the government to abide by its commitments to those concerned in this sector that connects Lebanese regions with each other.

Other issues were also discussed during the meeting, including Social Security of public drivers and the decline in union subscription fees.

Consequently, the ministers participating in the meeting were requested to submit a letter asking the Minister of Labor for an exceptional decision for at least one year to amend the subscriptions.

Bassam Tleis, head of the Land Transport Unions, said: “From here I say that on 1/12/2021, in the name of all colleagues, if the agreement is not implemented, I and my colleagues in the unions have the freedom to do anything without recurring to unions and the land transport sector.”

“Consider that you are free to do whatever you like from next month if the government does not commit to implementing the agreement,” he added.
