Lebanon’s prime minister Najib Mikati met the Lebanese president Michel Aoun on Thursday to discuss the draft policy statement that will be further moved to have parliamentary approval for confidence.
As Lebanon’s financial crisis reaches a drastic level, Lebanon’s cabinet approved the policy program that aims to mend the economic crises.
The Council of Ministers approved the ministerial statement after minor amendments, and the Parliament is set to meet next week.
In the banking clause, the phrase “reforming the banking sector and introducing the structure necessary structure” was adopted.
Information Minister George Kordahi said in a statement, after the cabinet session,”It was decided, depending on the request of Prime Minister Najib Mikati, that the government’s new slogan will be ‘Together to Save.'”
Kordahi pointed out that “the Lebanese president, General Michel Aoun, stressed the need to rapidly finding solutions that tackle people’s daily issues and to give this issue the utmost attention.”
He added that “the discussions within the ministerial statement drafting committee were very positive, according to what Mikati said.”
He stressed that “there is a willingness on the part of the government to take important decisions to ease the burdens on people.”
“We did not tackle the issue of Iranian fuel entering Lebanon because the session was devoted to the ministerial statement, and I cannot say the government’s position as long as we haven’t discussed the issue in the cabinet yet,” he noted.
