A Professor of Policy and Planning at the American University of Beirut (AUB), Nasser Yassin is also the chairperson of the AUB Health Management & Policy Department.
He also leads the Lebanon Crisis Observatory of AUB, which he founded in 2020. The initiative tracks the impacts of the ongoing crises in Lebanon and provides a systematic analysis of the crises’ various facets.
Yassin holds a Ph.D. in Planning Sciences from the University College London (UCL), a Master’s degree in Development Sciences from the London School of Economics (LSE), and a Master’s degree in Population Sciences from the Lebanese American University (LAU).
He was the interim Director of the Issam Fares Foundation for Public Policy and International Relations in 2019-2020 and has been the Institut Director since 2015.
He’s the founder of the Training Unit at the AUB’s Faculty of Health Sciences and he co-chairs the AUB4Refugees Initiative.
An author of over 50 internationally published books and peer-reviewed articles, Nasser Yassin has focused his practice interests and research in development planning and policymaking, as well as on policy and social innovation, and health and displacement policies and programs.
Yassin’s works have been featured in media channels like BBC, The Economist, Bloomberg, New York Times, and others.
He has also held various advisory roles and assignments for the United Nations, including UNHCR, ESCWA. UNDP, and ILO.
Nasser Yassin was selected by Saad Hariri as the new Minister of Environment in the newly-formed cabinet of PM Najib Mikati.
