Chosen by PM Najib Mikati and President Michel Aoun to head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib is a graduate of the American University of Beirut (AUB) and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
He is currently the managing director of a Lebanese think tank, as well as of the Issam Fares Center, which he founded in 2007
A lecturer at Al-Hikma University since 2002, and a writer in many newspapers and media websites, he is also a guest on many Lebanese and Arab talk shows
Bou Habib began his career at the World Bank in 1976 as an economist, and then as the chief loan officer in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
From May 1983 to February 1990, Bou Habib served as Lebanon’s ambassador to the United States.
He returned to the World Bank in February 1992 as an advisor to the Vice President of the MENA and Head of the Regional Communication Unit.
In March 2001, Bou Habib returned to Lebanon, and worked as a senior advisor to the Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Issam Fares, until August 2005.
Among his books: “Yellow Light – US Policy toward Lebanon” (Arabic, 1991), where he discusses the US policy toward Lebanon.
Abdallah Bou Habibi is now Lebanon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs & Emigrants.
