Former Nissan Chairman Carlos Ghosn had a meeting with Lebanese caretaker Industry Minister Imad Hoballah, who heads the Board of Trustees of the Association of Lebanese Industrial Research Achievements, the National News Agency reported on Thursday.
The goal of the meeting was to discuss Carlos Ghosn‘s experience and how to employ it in the fields of academic and scientific research, as well as in modernizing the industrial sector and creating new technological and integrative industries within it.
“We discussed the matter of the association’s work and how companies and institutions deal with universities in Lebanon in order to strengthen economic development and secure new job opportunities, especially in the industry and export sectors,” Ghosn stated after the meeting.
“We exchanged new and important ideas and I confirmed my readiness to help based on my experience in this field,” he added.
Ghosn has been living in Lebanon since he escaped prosecution in Japan in 2019.
For the past nearly two years, the wanted former executive has been working on fixing his reputation, which was tarnished with the rise of the criminal allegations against him.

Asked about his evaluation of the Lebanese industrial sector, Ghosn affirmed that industrial development faces “no problems” in Lebanon.
“Talent is available, and the required investments can be secured,” he said, stressing that Lebanon needs to develop its industry to help solve its financial and economic problems.
For his part, Hoballah said that Ghosn had presented “new and very important ideas for a strategic industrial orientation that are worth pursuing” during the meeting.
The official was asked whether Carlos Ghosn should be handed the Industry portfolio in the next government.
He answered: “If we wanted to search for a minister of industry, whom more worthy do we have than a man who is a man of industry in the world and not just in Lebanon?”
