Lebanese security forces have arrested an individual who stole antiques worth about $100,000.
On August 20th, a woman filed a report claiming that someone had entered her villa in the Naccache area of Beirut, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) said in a statement on Saturday.
The woman claimed that the unidentified person used a borrowed key to enter her residence and steal antiques and silverware.
In less than 24 hours after the report, the ISF Information Branch managed to identify the suspect as 45-year-old Lebanese national “A.O.”
On August 21st, after a surveillance operation, a patrol of the Information Branch stopped the man while he was in his car in the Roumieh area, and seized some of the stolen items from the BMW car.
He was later interrogated, and he confessed to having committed the burglary using a borrowed key, revealing that he had sold a large quantity of the items to a woman who trades in antiques.
Subsequently, the antiques were retrieved from the merchant and returned to the plaintiff, according to the ISF.
The necessary legal action has been taken against the detainee, who has been referred to the judicial authority.
