As Lebanon witnesses a decrease in coronavirus cases, it strives in the fight against the disease with real treatment to avoid further surges and outbreaks.

While the inoculation process had a slow start in Lebanon, serious efforts are being made now to secure and ramp up the treatment across the country.

In South Lebanon, a massive COVID-19 vaccination campaign was just launched at the Turkish Hospital in Saida by the Swiss humanitarian organization Medair. The campaign aims to vaccinate up to 90,000 vulnerable people over the next 3 months.

After setting up its COVID-19 vaccination center in Saida, Medair has begun earlier this week its process of inoculating 3,000 people daily. This comes after the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) received 1.5 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine at the beginning of June.

Medair is one of 6 INGOs carrying out vaccination campaigns in collaboration with MoPH.

“We are currently aiming to run the Saida Turkish Hospital Vaccination Center for 3 months in line with the MoPH plan for the distribution of Pfizer,” Anna Chilvers, Medair Lebanon Country Director, told The961.

“If a plan develops to continue running the Vaccination Centers after this time, and if funding allows, Medair will work with MoPH to be able to continue to provide vaccines for the populations of South Lebanon,” she explained.

Medair’s presence in Lebanon dates back to 2012. The organization has made efforts to provide essential health and shelter support for vulnerable Lebanese and refugee families across the country.

Medair was also on the ground in response to the Beirut Port explosion and continues to be committed to Lebanon especially amid the country’s multiple crises.
