The United States Department of State has allocated a grant that will benefit the Lebanese American University (LAU) and the American University of Beirut (AUB).
The grant is part of the U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), and it was provided to support the Tomorrow’s Leaders College-to-Work Pipeline (TLP) project.
The said project is designed to connect students to employers and reinforce their skills and vision.
The grant has a total value of $3 million, to be distributed among the two aforementioned universities and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
It will support 40 students selected for the TLP project with scholarships and allow them to acquire the skills they require through special programs called Vertically Integrated Projects that will be applied in each of these universities.
The projects simulate working at various companies and institutions, enabling students to gain experience and knowledge that better prepare them to venture into the job market.
Commenting on the grant, U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea expressed her happiness over “strengthening the commitment of the United States government to support the top universities in the region.”
“We are proud of our cooperation with academic institutions known internationally for their distinguished level,” she said, applauding the opportunity to develop “the old and solid partnership” through MEPI and other initiatives.
