Fights broke out in Jounieh and Zouk between a group of Lebanese protesters and Syrians who were on their way to vote.
The attacked processions were waving Syrian flags and pictures of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
The Syrian nationals on board were headed to the Syrian Embassy in Beirut to vote in the Syrian presidential election.
Pictures and videos shared online show Lebanese protesters blocking the roads in front of the voters’ buses and attacking them in the street.
The protesters also ripped the flags and the pictures of the Syrian President away from the voters in the process.
The Lebanese Army has since intervened to de-escalate the situation.
Although the 2021 presidential election opens in Syria on May 26th, Syrian expatriates are allowed to vote at Syrian embassies on Thursday, May 20th.
