Lebanon will enter a new total lockdown during the upcoming Orthodox Easter holiday in an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The lockdown (May 1st – May 4th) was announced by the country’s National Coronavirus Follow-up Committee following a meeting on Wednesday.
An all-day curfew will be in force throughout the closure, with some vital sectors allowed to work. Wearing a face mask will be mandatory at all times, and all kinds of parties and gatherings will be prohibited.
People will be prohibited from going out starting 5 AM on Saturday until 5 AM on Tuesday, with the exception of those exempted from the curfew in the lockdown decision of February 6th, in accordance with the standard preventive measures and procedures in force.
People who are not exempt from the curfew may only go out after obtaining official permission from the dedicated platform, here, provided that their destination is among the following:
- Fruit, vegetable, and fish markets
- Veterinary pharmacies and clinics
- Bakeries
- Medical clinics
- Hospitals and their direct services
- Pharmacies
- Supermarkets, mini-markets, and retail shops that sell poultry, meat, eggs, vegetables, fruits, and food products
- Gas stations
- Laboratories
The lockdown was announced alongside a decision to suspend flights from Brazil and India, which are seeing an alarming spike in COVID-19 cases.
