After raiding the headquarters of the Mecattaf company again, Mount Lebanon Public Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun has obtained data from the company.
Assisted by her supporters and the tools of workers she had called in, Judge Aoun forced her way into the Mecattaf headquarters in Awkar on Wednesday, resuming her controversial mission to extract data.
After spending hours in the building, the Judge was able to go back to her car with computers and some files that belong to Mecattaf, according to local media.
Judge Aoun‘s actions have sparked controversy in Lebanon, especially at the legal level, as they ignored the decision of State Prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat to relieve Aoun of cases of financial crimes, including the Mecattaf case.
Her third raid of the building came one day after the High Judicial Council held a meeting for the purpose of questioning her over her lack of compliance with the State Prosecutor’s decision.
The Council ended up referring Judge Aoun to judicial inspection and asking her to “adhere to the decision of the State Prosecutor.”
Judge Aoun‘s apparent lack of compliance with the Council’s statements, coupled with raiding a company and taking data from it in pursuit of a case that she no longer leads, has raised additional questions about the legality of her actions.
