The iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS) just announced the winners of the 2018 edition of the annual competition. IPPAWARDS is the first and longest running iPhone photography competition. It was launched in 2007; the year when the first iPhone was released.
The competition awards the best photos taken with an iPhone or an iPad. The images should not be altered with Photoshop or any desktop image processing program. The use of any iPhone/iPad app is permissible.
The categories are: abstract, animals, architecture, children, floral, landscape, lifestyle, nature, news and events, panorama, people, portrait, series (3 images), still life, sunset, travel, trees, and other.
Lebanese Soha Ghandour’s photo of the beach in Tyre won third place in the travel category. It was shot with an iPhone 5. All 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from each category will receive IPPAWARDS certificates.
The self-taught photographer developed an interest in photography in 2016 when she started noticing the beauty of streets, people, and architecture. In September 2016, Soha was selected as a finalist for the Byblos Bank Award. That’s when she decided to leave her corporate job and become a full-time photographer.
The Grand Prize goes to Jashim Salam from Bangladesh for his entry Displaced which was shot with an iPhone 7. The photo portrays Rohingya children that are watching an awareness film about health and sanitation near the Tangkhali refugee camp in Ukhiya.
