The Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) have arrested the culprit behind the gruesome murder that shook Beirut over the weekend.
On Saturday, a foul smell was emanating from an abandoned black bag thrown near a bank on Istiklal Street in Beirut. In a horrific discovery, the bag was found to contain dismembered human limbs.
Initial reports claimed the body parts – arms and legs – belonged to a woman who was assumed to be a migrant worker from Ethiopia due to the dark skin tone.
On Monday, the ISF released a brief statement saying that it had arrested the person believed to be behind the murder and who turned out to be the victim’s husband.
Both the victim and the murderer are of Bangladeshi nationality, the ISF said, adding that it was continuing its investigation under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
It is worth noting that such violent and cold-blooded murders are rare in Lebanon, especially those including the dismemberment of human bodies. In 2018, Lebanon was estimated to have a homicide rate of 2.5 cases per 100,000 population (Knoema).
